In this hands-on beginner sewing course, participants will learn the foundational skills needed to start their sewing journey. You will be guided by industry professionals in a supportive, friendly environment.

- Sewing Machine Basics: a refresher for you and your machine
- Understanding the components of a sewing machine, threading techniques, and machine maintenance.
- Machine Threading: Detailed instruction on how to properly thread the sewing machine.
- Needles and Their Uses: Overview of different types of sewing needles and their specific applications.
- Types of Threads: Discussion on various thread types and their suitable uses.
- Bobbin Theory: Understanding how the bobbin functions and how to wind and insert it.
- How to Adjust Machine Speed: Techniques for controlling machine speed for different sewing tasks.
- Tension- how to change machine stitching.
- Grainlines- what are they and what makes them important?
- Basic Sewing Techniques:
- Introduction to essential sewing techniques
- Sewing Practice:
- Straight sewing techniques, seam allowance
- Overlock finishes on open and closed seams
- Learn how to correctly to sew circles and curved lines.
- learn essential sewing finishes such as Top stitching and back stitching.
- Sampler Techniques:
- Overlock and Press Open: Mastery of overlocking seams.
- Overlock and Press Closed: Techniques for finishing raw edges.
- Make Yourself a Basic Tote: create a tote bag, pre-cut and ready to sew

· Participants may bring their own sewing machine or use one of ours.

- Sewing snips

- Any additional personal sewing supplies you prefer to use
- Tape measure
