This workshop is for beginner sewers who have navigated the use of the machine and would like to start exploring different techniques used to make clothes, accessories, and used in alterations and repairs.
Overview
In this course you will learn not only how to sew well, but also how to use a sewing machine properly, we will go through all you need to know from setting up to sewing great seams, darts, gathers and an understanding of more elevated techniques in garment construction
What you will learn
You’ll sew a complete set of pocket samples to take home, including:
- Seam types: French, capped, topstitched & mock flat felled
- Darts: bodice, skirt and pant. Correct techniques and pressing finishes
- Shaped bust seams, the princess line – learn the correct technique including clipping and notching
- Inserting a corner seam, the correct way to pivot & sew perfect inset corners
- Mitred corners- sew beautiful finishes for hems and splits
- Perfect gathering- create samplers on how to gather and stitch to flat seams
Materials needed
· Participants may bring their own sewing machine or use one of ours.
Recommended items to bring:
- Sewing snips
- Pins
- Any additional personal sewing supplies you prefer to use
- Tape measure
