Overview
In this hands-on workshop participants will explore a range of couture hand sewing techniques under the guidance of esteemed couturier Julie Goodwin.
Over five hours participants will learn and practice a variety of hand sewing methods - from hand basting through to exquisite finishing touches - developing the skills to achieve professional-level results in their own garments and projects.
What you will learn
Participants will explore and practice the following couture hand sewing techniques.
Hand Basting
- Securing layers of fabric accurately without machine stitching
Blind Stitching
- Achieving invisible hems and finishes for a professional result
Pick Stitching
- Adding subtle decorative stitches along seams or edges for a refined finish
Tailor Tacks
- Marking fabric layers accurately for placement before sewing
Hand-Finished Seams
- Finishing seams by hand to reduce bulk and enhance the overall aesthetic
Hand-Applied Patch Pocket
- Invisibly applied and perfectly placed pocket construction
Hand-Sewn Eyelet
- A couture-level alternative to the metal hammered eyelet
By the end of the workshop participants will be able to apply each of these techniques with confidence and incorporate them into their own sewing projects.
