Overview
In this hands-on workshop, participants will embark on a creative journey to construct the perfect classic shirt, supported by expert craftspeople.
The classic button-down is the holy grail of garment construction—a piece where precision is everything. Over two immersive Sundays, we strip away the guesswork and replace it with professional, industry-standard techniques that ensure every stitch serves a purpose.
Why This Course is Different
This isn't just about following a pattern; it’s about commanding the fabric. Guided by industry experts in a focused, intimate setting, you will gain the confidence to tackle complex shirting with precision. You won't just leave with a shirt; you'll leave with a new standard of excellence for everything you sew thereafter.
What you will learn
- The 2-piece shirt collar: Create perfectly symmetrical collar points and a collar stand that rolls beautifully against the neck, avoiding the common pitfalls of bulk and misalignment.
- Cuffs sewn with Precision: Master the engineering of the sleeve placket—including the intricate folding and "origami-like" assembly—paired with crisp, professional cuffs that sit exactly where they should.
- The pintuck placket- we will reveal the secret to this perfect finish on the front of shirts.
- The interior secrets: Move beyond basic finishes. We’ll dive into advanced assembly, including French, mock felled seams and bound seams for a clean, durable interior and perfectly bagged out yokes that looks as good on the inside as it does on the outside.
- The Finishing Touch: Learn the secrets to impeccable topstitching, accurate buttonhole placement, and the "final press" techniques used by professional tailors to give your garment that unmistakable crispness.
