STAGE ONE: ADVANCED DRAFTING OF THE SHAWL COLLAR AND A QUICK REFRESH ON THE COLLAR AND LAPEL DRAFTING TECHNIQUE:
  • This section of the course will look deeply at the understanding the Shawl Collar, how to adapt it to any type of garment and they key drafting tools needed when making coats/jackets. 
STAGE TWO: THE "MAC COAT”.One of the most versatile coats to make suited to most body styles and fabrications. The MAC explores key tailoring techniques through drafting:
  • THE TRENCH STYLE 2 PIECE COLLAR
  • THE RAGLAN SLEEVE
  • THE SLANT WELT POCKET
  • BACK VENT & HALF BUGGY LINING. 
  • This exploration  unpacks critical tailoring techniques that you will apply across all types of pattern making, it provides an in depth analysis in drafting and making production ready patterns.
STAGE THREE:  THE SHAWL COLLAR X-OVER  WRAP COAT
  • This beautiful collar frames the face and keeps the aesthetic proportions in check, superb for all types of styling and fabrics.   
  • Drafting the shawl collar and it's variations 
  • The cross over coat, wrap and tie or fastening options
  • Critical fits, contoured, relaxed or flared options                  
  • This exploration  unpacks critical tailoring techniques that you will apply across all types of pattern making, it provides an in depth analysis in drafting and making production ready patterns.
    In this course you will learn:
    • How to draft tailored shawl collar and two piece styles- explore multiple options
    • How to identify & work with the break line, the jet pocket and flap, the back vent, facings and internal pockets 
    • How to construct a proper tailored lining using industry techniques.
    • the two-piece sleeve; the shoulder pad, easing, sleeve heading, the sleeve placket
    • Drafting the Raglan Sleeve
    • Fusing, how to use it, what type, where to put if and how.
    • Key instructional conversations on making tailored jackets 
    • Half and Full lining variations

    All these techniques will be discovered in the process of drafting & making the jacket pattern in class using industry standard blocks- which you keep! All of these techniques are shown as pattern exercises, existing sewing samplers and calico toile’s to fully demonstrate the processes.

    We provide you with:

    • The tailored jacket block- MALE, FEMALE, GENDER NEUTRAL
    • Pattern making paper for all class exercises
    • Pattern making rulers to use in class

    Pens, Pencils, Masking Tape, Small Rulers, Note Paper, Tape Measure, Pins, Paper Scissors
